Vowen registers the vowen:// URL scheme on macOS and Windows. Opening one of these URLs from a browser, a launcher such as Raycast or Alfred, a Shortcuts action, a note in another app, or a script brings Vowen forward on the page you asked for. If the app is closed, the link launches it first.

Actions

Ids are the numeric ids the CLI prints (vowen notes list, vowen history --type transcription) and webhooks send as noteId and itemId. A link to an id that no longer exists opens Vowen without selecting anything.

Pages for vowen://open/<page>

An unknown page opens Home.

Sections for vowen://settings/<section>

account, general, audio, language, recording, hotkeys, sync, developer, experimental, permissions.

Used by the app itself

Two more actions exist for Vowen’s own plumbing. They open nothing.

What URLs can’t do

Every vowen:// action only opens something. None of them starts a recording, transcribes or reads a file, or changes your data or settings. That is deliberate. Any web page can try to open a custom URL, so an action that recorded or read files would be one click away from any site you visit. Use the CLI for those: it only talks to the app through a token that only your user account can read. A launcher or Shortcuts action that can run a shell command can call any of these.

Linking from a webhook

Webhook payloads carry the note or transcription id, so a receiver can post a link that opens the item on the machine that recorded it:
See Webhooks for the payload.
