Cmd+\ on macOS or Ctrl+\ on Windows to summon a small
floating panel. It has three tabs: ask the AI a question, jot context for the summary, or read the
transcript as it comes in. Press the same keys again to dismiss it, or press Escape.
The panel is excluded from screen capture. It will not appear in a screen share, a recording made by
another app, or in Vowen’s own meeting screenshots. You can use it in the middle of a call you are
presenting in.
Opening and closing it
1
Start taking meeting notes
The panel only exists during a meeting-notes session. Outside one, the shortcut is not
registered at all, so the key stays with whatever app you are using.
2
Press the shortcut
Cmd+\ on macOS, Ctrl+\ on Windows. It opens focused so you can start typing straight away,
centered on whichever display you are looking at, and floats above other windows including
full-screen apps. Once you have moved it, it stays where you put it.3
Dismiss it
Press the shortcut again, press Escape, or click the close button at the right of the action
bar. The panel remembers where you put it and which tab you were on.
The three tabs
Switch tabs by clicking, or withCmd+1 / Cmd+2 / Cmd+3 on macOS and Ctrl+1 / Ctrl+2 /
Ctrl+3 on Windows. Hold the modifier and the digit for each tab appears on its button. The number
row and the numeric keypad both work, and the shortcuts are keyed to physical key position, so they
work on AZERTY and other layouts where the digits need a modifier of their own.
Ask
Ask
Ask a question about the meeting so far. Each question pulls in the latest transcript, so
follow-ups stay in sync as the conversation moves. Answers stream in place. See
Ask AI for the full behavior, including how questions are answered when
real-time transcription is off. This is the only Pro-gated tab. On a free plan it shows an upgrade card instead of the
conversation.
Notes
Notes
A plain text box for context you want the summary to take into account. Anything you type is
saved to this meeting and added to the AI summary prompt. It is the same field as the Notes tab
on the floating indicator and the My Notes tab on the finished note, so all three show the
same text.
Transcript
Transcript
The live transcript, grouped into readable paragraphs, following the tail unless you scroll up to
read. If real-time transcription is not running, a banner explains that the tab fills in each
time you ask a question, and the text appears after each catch-up.
The action bar
The bar along the bottom of the panel holds the tabs on the left and the actions on the right.Screenshot
Screenshot
Captures your screen and attaches it to your next question as visual context. Captured shots
appear as removable chips above the composer, and the button carries a badge with how many
screenshots this meeting has. If the selected AI model cannot read images, a warning chip says
so. Screenshot capture is available on macOS and Windows; on Linux the button reports that it is
not supported.
Mark important
Mark important
Flags the current moment so the summary emphasises what was just discussed. It stamps the
elapsed time, and when a live transcript is running it also keeps a short excerpt of what was
being said. The button carries a badge with how many moments you have marked. The marks are fed
to the summarizer when the meeting ends.
Clear chat
Clear chat
Appears on the Ask tab once the conversation has messages. It erases the live conversation, which
is shared with the floating indicator’s Ask AI tab.
You drag the panel by the action bar. Dragging anywhere else does nothing. The bar is the only
part of the panel with no text to aim at, so dragging it can never fight with placing the caret in
the composer. The cursor changes to a grab handle over it.
Changing the shortcut
The panel shortcut is rebound from the Notes settings, not from Settings > Shortcuts.1
Open Notes settings
Go to Notes in the sidebar and open the settings gear, then the Recording Defaults tab.
2
Find Meeting panel shortcut
It sits with the live-transcript settings. The toggle beside it enables or disables the
shortcut.
3
Click the key combination to rebind it
Record a new combination in the dialog. It must include a modifier such as Ctrl, Cmd, Alt or
Shift, because it is registered as a system-wide shortcut. Mouse buttons cannot be used, and
Vowen will not let you pick a combination another Vowen shortcut already owns.
Pro gating
Only the Ask tab is Pro. The Notes and Transcript tabs, the screenshot button and the
mark-important button all work on every plan.
