What Meeting Notes Does
Meeting Notes records system audio (what others say) and your microphone (what you say) during any meeting or call. After the meeting, it:- Transcribes the full conversation
- Generates an AI-powered summary
- Identifies speakers (with supported models)
- Extracts action items and key decisions
Requirements
- macOS: Screen Recording permission granted (for system audio capture)
- Windows: No special permissions needed
- An AI provider configured (required for summarization)
- A cloud transcription model (required for diarization, recommended for accuracy)
Quick Start
- Grant Screen Recording permission if you haven’t already (macOS only)
- Configure an AI provider in Settings > AI Setup
- Open the Notes page and adjust recording settings from the gear icon at the top right if needed (see below)
- Click Start Taking Notes in the top right to begin, or start from the tray/menu bar icon, or use the Start Notes shortcut (
Cmd+Shift+Non macOS /Alt+Non Windows by default; enable or rebind it in Settings > Shortcuts) - Have your meeting
- Stop recording when done. Vowen transcribes and summarizes automatically.
Recording Settings
Adjust these settings from the gear icon at the top right of the Notes page before you start a recording:- Microphone — the input device used to capture your voice
- Transcription model — the speech-to-text model that processes audio
- Language — the spoken language, or auto-detect
- Identify Speakers — toggle diarization on or off (Pro, supported models only)
- AI Summary Model — the AI provider that generates the summary
- Summary Template — the structure of the summary. Create multiple custom templates (Pro) or use the built-in Meeting Notes template
Organizing Notes
As your notes pile up, the Notes page gives you a few ways to find things fast.Tags
Add tags to any completed note from its card — click add tag, then create a new tag or reuse an existing one. Tags are shared across all notes and can be given colors. Manage them (rename, recolor, delete) from the tag bar above the list; deleting a tag just removes it from your notes, it never deletes the notes themselves.Filtering and sorting
Above the notes grid you’ll find:- A tag filter bar — click All to clear filters, or click tags to filter by them. With two or more tags selected, a Match: Any / All toggle decides whether a note needs any of the selected tags or all of them
- A search box that matches note titles and summaries
- A People filter — once you’ve named speakers in your notes (via diarization), this dropdown lists everyone who’s appeared and lets you filter the grid to notes that include any of the people you pick. It only shows up when at least one named person exists; generic
Speaker 1labels don’t count - A Sort dropdown: Newest first (default), Oldest first, Recently tagged, Title A → Z, or Title Z → A
Attendees on each card
Notes where you’ve named speakers show an avatar stack of attendees on the card — overlapping colored initials that fan out on hover, with a “+N” badge when there are more than fit. Hover any avatar to see the full name. As with the People filter, attendees come from the human names you’ve assigned to diarization speakers. How It Differs from Regular Transcription
